Charlotte Reacts to Proposed Bike Plan
Updated: 7:50 pm EDT September 7, 2008
A city council vote could make Charlotte more friendly to bike riders. The proposal calls for adding hundreds of miles of trails, greenways and bike lanes over the next two decades.Cyclists said the biggest problem they face is sharing the road with cars. They said bike lanes painted onto the roadways don't always work. "You'll find some of the real bikers don't actually like the big bike lanes," rider John Macnair said. "A lot debris and garbage gets in there, and it doesn't necessarily slow down a car. It depends on how they do it."A vote on the bike plan is on Monday night's council agenda.
