HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Huntersville planners have an unusual idea to change a busy intersection. They’re working to resolve congestion at the intersection of Sam Furr and Statesville roads. They said the main problem is drivers on Sam Furr trying to turn left onto Statesville. So planners may want to do away with the left turn and force drivers to go straight through the intersection, make a right on Holly Point Drive, and then go right on Statesville. That way motorists would take two rights instead of one left. Some drivers seem ready for anything. April Powers said, "(The intersection is) very frustrating -- makes you want to move out of the area."Jamie Palillo said, "You'll sit there for 45 minutes just to come down two miles."Former N.C. Assistant Highway Administrator Edd Hauser said the idea could work, especially if taxpayers don't want to spend money widening the road. But one driver, Ashley Schroeder, said, "It sounds a little too over-complicated, I think."Planners aren't necessarily sold on the idea themselves. They want to learn more. They're holding a public workshop in November.
