North Carolina’s scenic Lake Lure provided the setting for one of the most popular and enduring romantic classics, “Dirty Dancing.” Now the town plays host to the annual Dirty Dancing Festival, a weekend-long celebration featuring beach and soul music bands, fun competitions -- including the infamous Lake Lift Competition -- watermelon games and, of course, lots of dance performances.
The 8th annual festival happening Aug. 18-19 celebrates the film's 30th anniversary and commemorates star Patrick Swayze's 65th birthday. Friday night’s festivities include a lakeside screening of the movie. On Saturday, the event really kicks into high gear with lots of entertainment and fanfare.
Admission to the Friday night film screening is free although festival ticket holders will recieve early entry.
Admission to the Saturday dance and music festival cost $20 for adults and $5 for kids (ages 4-12) in advance. Tickets will cost $25 for adults and $10 for kids at the gate. Children age 3 and under are admitted free.
